Scams on Socials.

Scams and hoaxes on social media seem to be overwhelming and fast growing recently. Scams involving Coachella tickets are a common example that I have seen recently, mostly on Tiktok. The main goal of these scams is to make quick money by taking advantage of people who want to go to the festival after tickets sell out. These people are desperate and often times will do anything to go to the festival, so they make easy and gullible targets. Usually, scammers post on apps like Instagram or Tiktok, in the comments, pretending they have extra tickets or aren’t able to attend anymore. They send fake screenshots of tickets or receipts and persuade people to send money through apps like Venmo or Paypal. Once the money is sent, the scammer disappears from social media or sends fake tickets that don’t work and many times people don’t realize this until they are at the festival. To avoid this, people can check if the seller is legit, use secure payment methods, and only buy from official resale sites, not random people on the internet. It’s also important to watch out for red flags like rushed deals or prices that seem too good to be true, as well as excuses that seem too far fetched.

I have also seen this scam a lot on Tiktok. They usually post comments on videos relating to Coachella! It’s horrible, especially seeing the aftermath of the people who were scammed.

As much as I would love to go to Coachella, I will never buy it unless it’s resale on the website.

I’ve seen this many times. A lot of people have also done this with concert tickets.

Me and my friends almost bought tickets off of someone on Tiktok. Glad we didn’t. I hope people begin to realize that these are infact scam.

Remember when we almost bought Taylor Swift tickets from someone who did this? Haha.
